The Governors State women’s basketball team is off to a 4-0 start, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with after two commanding wins this past week. The Jaguars have been putting on a show for their fans with balanced scoring, stifling defense, and an unwavering focus.
The week began with a strong performance against Siena Heights on Nov.16. The Jaguars set the tone early, holding their opponents to just seven points in the first quarter while building an 18-point lead. Governors State’s defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and controlling the boards, finishing with a 74-57 victory. Cencere McDaniel led the team with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while Kalvina Eubanks contributed 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Tabetha Jones was a force in the paint, scoring 12 points and hitting eight of her 10 free-throw attempts. The team’s efficiency, shooting 50% from the field, proved key as they never allowed Siena Heights to find a rhythm.
The momentum carried into their Nov. 20 matchup against Trinity Christian, where Governors State delivered their most dominant performance of the season, cruising to a 94-40 victory. The Jaguars jumped out to a blistering 28-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Tabetha Jones was unstoppable, pouring in 25 points and grabbing seven rebounds, while Izzy Agredano came off the bench to add 16 points, hitting four three-pointers. The team’s three-point shooting was lights out, going 12-of-22 from beyond the arc (54.5%), while the defense held Trinity Christian to just 40 points on 29% shooting. The Jaguars’ depth was on full display, with eight players contributing six or more points.
