Governors State University will hold a Native American Land Acknowledgment Dedication Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The event, organized by the Office of the President and GovState’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (DEIC), will begin with a land acknowledgment statement on Circle Drive at the Bell Tower.
Following the statement, attendees are invited to Engbretson Hall at 1:30 p.m. for a celebration featuring crafts, singing, dancing, and ethnic food. The American Indian Center of Chicago will conduct a workshop in Engbretson Hall at 2 p.m.
The event is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. DEIC encourages anyone interested in attending to register in advance.
According to their webpage, DEIC aims to foster a supportive, positive, and inclusive environment for all GovState community members. This event is part of their ongoing efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus.
