Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity hosted a game night on Oct. 24 that featured various classic board games, ranging from chess to spades to UNO.
Multiple Alpha Phi Alpha members set up the room with the games, food, and refreshments as they welcomed students into the room. GSU students wasted no time getting into friendly competition of the games. Each board game that was played at a separate table, and students were able to migrate from table to table to compete in the games or just watch for fun. The board games that were played were monopoly, family fued, uno, and chess. Students also began to get creative and form their own games such as setting a plastic cup between two people. Then having someone call out specific body parts that the two were to touch before calling for students to get the cup. Whichever student got the cup first won a point. Alpha Phi Alpha also offered students the opportunity to join the fraternity as well.
Shawn Spearman, an Alpha Phi Alpha member, was asked about the intention in having this event on campus. With enthusiasm, he responded by saying, “The intent was just to introduce students on Governors State’s campus to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. And just to have an associate event so they can get to know who we are and be familiar with us because we plan on doing a lot of other events in the future on campus.”
Montgomery Proffit, Greek Life administrator who is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, added, “We want to introduce the campus to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. Greek life we’re aggressively expanding, that’s what I’m saying, so we’re working on getting Alpha Phi Alpha on the campus. So we want to introduce the campus to the Fraternity.”
Lastly, Chris Edwards, Governosr State junior and game night attendee, quoted, “For that to be the first game night that the Alpha’s hosted it was a great, great event and a great expierence”
