GSU’s women’s soccer team traveled to Indiana to take on Indiana University South Bend on Sept. 25, looking to break a two-game losing streak.
The game’s early stages saw the Jaguars putting heavy pressure on IUSB and not allowing them to leave their half. Grace Mclaughlin kicked off the scoring with a goal in the 31st minute. About 12 minutes later, a perfectly placed corner from Ana Rodriguez to the top of the six-yard box allowed Jinni Jimenez to make it 2-0. The first half ended with GSU up 2-0.
The Jaguars extended the lead in the 56th minute as Morgan Bean danced past a defender to perfectly place the ball past the keeper in the bottom corner. IUSB’s Hayli Marsch made it 3-1 in the 70th minute, but on the following kick-off, Morgan Bean caught the IUSB keeper out of her box and scored from the halfway line to make the final score 4-1.
This was a dominant performance from the Jaguars. In addition to Bean’s two goals, the team fired 32 shots with over half on goal. The team tested their opponent’s keeper for the whole 90 minutes and pressured IUSB when they tried to leave their box.
The Jaguars will head to Bourbonnais on Oct. 1 to face Olivet Nazarene University, hoping to start a winning streak.
