Governors State University hosted its annual Block Party & Greek Life Fair last Thursday, Aug. 29.
Focusing on bringing together students, freshly back from break, to have some fun while at school, the block party offered a DJ, food trucks, games, and activities. The DJ provided an engaging atmosphere, for the students and staff, throughout the event. And, the food trucks consisted of Avocado Theory, Los Razo’s Mexican Grill, Chick-fil-A, and Frozen Yogurt.
The event was created by the Center for Student Engagement & Intercultural Programs office. They had set up a system with wristbands, and a QR code signup. Each member would then receive a wristband, as well as two tickets, for the choice of a food truck they wanted. A student could bring one guest, like a family member or friend. It was hosted from 1 to 5 p.m. outside building D.
Volunteers at booths provided information about organizations, services and activities available to students. The students could talk with the board members or staff of a club of interest, and join. Many of the organizations offered free things to the students visiting their booths.
The environment was busy, and a long line of students and staff, some carrying small fans in the heat, waited to use their tickets.
