The Drill Team’s Flag Football competition took place on Thursday, March 28.
The facilitators went from room to room to make sure everything was set. From making sure they had all the equipment in its storage room to be ready for when the time came, to making sure the gymnasium was cleared out and clean, as well as making phone calls to make sure that those who were set to play on would be able to make it.
As the event started, the game participants started strolling in. The players all warmed up, and the administrators welcomed everyone, whether they were coming to play in the event, coming to watch, or simply just curious about what was going on.
And even the warm-up was competitive. The participants warmed up and began running some practice plays, putting in 110 percent to make each pass was caught. Even some spectators were in attendance for this event just to watch how competitive the teams were in this tournament.
After the event, one of the facilitators, Inala Rose, said that she believed that the event went well and that it appeared everyone seemed to enjoy themselves during it. She described it as being exhilarating, entertaining, and exciting with all of the energy and competitiveness.
De Vonte Turner participated as a ref, spectator, and player. He described it the same way, even showing me some of his scabs with he got during the game. However, Rose said felt that improvement could be made, saying that in the advertising and avoiding breaks from the campus could have been better for this event.
Three teams will proceed to face off against each other for the top spot as the flag football champions next month. Teams were able to create their own names. The team named “Hot Chilly Steppers” were the highest scoring team with 45 points, automatically placing them in championship. “The Love Crew” tied with “Team Red,” and they will play each other to determine who will challenge the Chilly Steppers.
If the preliminaries were competitive, then the finale should turn up the heat a notch or two. So, who’s ready for a little college spring competition to release the stress of school?
