GSU students enjoyed pizza and beverages at a Super Tuesday Watch party on March 5.
The event was held in GovState’s Lakeside lounge while the election results began pouring in nationwide. The students received help registering to vote, learned which political party best aligns with their values, and participated in a mock election. The event was possible due to the effort of several professors, staff, and volunteers.
Communication Prof. Dr. Jim Vining encouraged students as they explored the different features of the event. “Primaries are not just for political insiders,” said Vining. “You actually get a voice, and we encourage you to use it. In addition to the primary, some other really important elections are coming up.”
This effort was part of the Student Learn Student Vote initiative. Listen to the Feb. 29 episode of Jaguar Pride on Radio Jaguar for more information about this program. The episode features Interdisciplinary Studies Assistant Professor and Campus Coordinator Crystal Harris discussing civic engagement on campus and registering students to vote.
