The GovState community danced the night away on Nov. 16 for the GSU Dance Company’s Dancing with the Stars fundraiser event. it was a night to remember featuring members of the GovState community who formed two-person teams to perform.
The teams were filled with diverse members from GSU, ranging from a mother and daughter to a professor and a student. The judges for the competition were members of the GSU faculty. The nine teams were given a grade from 1-10. Many teams scored 7s and 8s. Whereas the finalists averaged 9s and 10s. The dance numbers were diverse in movement and music selection. Genres such as Afro Beats, Jazz, and Hip-Hop were used while performing.
In between the competition, the floor was opened for all who attended to get up and dance. This was also an opportunity for audience members to support and vote for the team they believed performed best.
As the night came to the end, the best would indeed be saved for last. Team number nine composed of student and GSU Dance Company member Jazmin Butler paired with Dr. Patrick Santoro brought home the first place accolades. The crowd was absolutely astonished by this dynamic duo of professor and student. The two had great rhythm and synchronized very well with one another.

When asked about the performance, Santoro said: “Dancing with Jazmin was so joyful. She has such passion, energy, and commitment.’’ When asked what it felt like performing, Santorro responded: “It felt amazing! We need more of what we had here tonight!”
