“She Kills Monsters” is the most recent production from Governors State University’s Theater and Performance Studies program. It was performed Nov. 2 through Nov. 5.
With a colorful cast of 10 drawn from both the GovState community and neighboring venues, the actors collaborated and made sure the production didn’t fail to move audiences.
“She Kills Monsters” is a play about Agnes Evans, a woman who tragically loses her parents and little sister in a car accident. The production then uses the themes of comedy and friendship to bring life to a story about loss and grief.
The play is an LGBTQ-positive production. The actors’ performances portrayed their characters in a light, fun, but honest fashion. The cast did a great job at portraying what it means to be young, and the journey of finding yourself.
Having spoken with some audience members, one viewer said “the production was too advanced for her younger sister.” Other members of the audience felt that the story was nostalgic and shared what it means to have good friendships.
The Theater and Performance Studies program is dedicated to authenticity and creativity. A live radio production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be showing in the Center for Performing Arts Dec. 1 – 3.
Next semester GovState’s Theater and Performance Studies will be perform “The Exonerated,” written by Jessica Blank and directed by Professor Patrick Santoro, PhD.
Following the creativity expressed through “She Kills Monsters,” it will be a well anticipated production for both the local and GovState community. For more information, follow the links below.
