Uncover a Hidden Gem: GSU’s Center for Performing Arts
The Center for Performing Arts (CPA) is a state-of-the-art facility that for nearly 30 years has enriched our university with dynamic performances and inspiring story telling.
According to Governors State University, the CPA is guided by its mission to “engage(s) Chicago’s Southland’s diverse communities in art through education, entertainment, performing arts, and dialogue,” and has become a major player in the Chicagoland art scene.
The first two shows of the term — “Opera Up Close: Happy Birthday, Mozart! “(Jan. 29) and “DRUMLine Live!” (Feb. 4) — both were both sold out. The next performance, presented by the GSU Dance Company on March 10-11 at 7:30 p.m., is entitled “Rise UP! Truth to Power.” The show features original choreography by GSU faculty, students, and alumni.
Recently, auditions were held for the upcoming performance of Shakespeare’s “Othello.” It will be adapted and directed by own Jane F. Cox, Cultural Marketing Director for the CPA. That show will run from April 6-8. Tickets are on sale at GSU’s website and at the box office.
The CPA is very active, offering multiple performances and educational programming each month. Throughout the campus one can see flyers and other advertisements that make the CPA’s programming very visible to students, faculty, and visitors. You can learn more about the Center for Performing Arts including the Arts in Education Program, a calendar of events and information on how you can support the CPA on the GSU website.
