Jaguar Pride #6: Final Episode for Spring 2022 Semester
In the final episode of “Jaguar Pride” for the Spring 2022, we say goodbye and congratulations to our GSU 2022 graduates: host and reporter Claude T. Martinez; road reporter Jazmine Grisby; and arts & entertainment reporter Tiyen Simmons. Additionally, the “Jaguar Pride” team created an episode highlighting the many end-of-semester events, news, and the upcoming Summer Journalism Boot Camp.
The show kicks off with Dante Corona reporting on social justice and religious leader Father Michael Pfleger receiving an honorary doctoral degree from GSU this May. Nuha Abdessalam wants to makes sure anyone interested in journalism and becoming part of the GSU Phoenix knows about the Summer Journalism Boot Camp happening June 16- Aug. 15. Abdessalam’s report in “Jaguar Pride” complements her story already printed for the GSU Phoenix.
John Redfield Jr. reminds students to give thanks to those who taught them this semester during Teachers Appreciation Week. Martinez interviews GSU Psychology Club Vice President Eunice Gomez about the April Showers Brings May Flowers fundraiser.
Simmons reports on the film “Candela” directed by Andrés Farías, based on the novel by GSU Assistant Professor Rey Andujar. The virtual screening and panel discussion of “Candela” was part of the Chicago Latino Film Festival. Since the semester is winding down, Grisby reached out to students to inquire about their plans for the summer.
The Advanced Audio Production Students in the Media Studies Program at Governors State University are producing a weekly newscast called “Jaguar Pride.” This weekly newscast will cover the news and many of the events happening at GSU plus stories on the students and faculty.
“Jaguar Pride” is hosted and edited by Claude T. Martinez. The students reporters record their own packages covering their specific assignment. Dante Corona is the campus news reporter. Nuha Abdessalam covers health and wellness on the GSU campus. Tiyen Simmons is assigned to GSU’s arts and entertainment. John Redfield Jr spotlights a specific faculty member or student each week. Jazmine Grisby is the road reporter asking GSU students questions on different topics each week.
