GSU Gets Million-Dollar Grant for Disadvantaged Students

Governors State University has received a $1.1 million grant through the efforts of the Department of Education and Trio, a federal outreach and student services program.

Trio’s goal is to assist low income, first generation, and disabled students to make sure that they have the same opportunities as privileged individuals and can perform at the best of their ability with no circumstantial obstacles in the way of their success.

This grant will provide aid to those in need of educational guidance through financial literacy, financial aid counseling, and specialized support services. GSU was one three institutions of higher learning in the Chicagoland area to receive the grant.

This is the first time since 2011, when Trio had a “budget crisis,” that GSU has been a part of the program.
