For young artists who do not have their foot in the door of the art world, finding a gallery to show their work in can be daunting. There is also the fear of a stark artist resume that shows little to no experience with exhibitions once they leave school. GSU art students will still worry about this, but they will have an opportunity to pad their resume and gain exposure due to gallery space and sales collective in Flossmoor.  

An artist collective consisting of GSU students, faculty, and alumni breathed new life into downtown Flossmoor, where there was an abundance of vacant space. The group included Professor Leanne Cambric, Director and Curator of GSU’s Sculpture park and Visual arts, Jeff Stevenson, alumni with a MFA in studio art, Madeline Henry, and current MFA students.  

The gallery is a side project of Gypsy Fix, a Flossmoor retail store that sells clothing, jewelry, home décor, and even repurposed furniture. The sales collective will be called Gypsy and Company and will feature local artists’ work. Even better, the artists will be able to sell their work, encouraging the recent push for supporting local businesses and creators during this year of financial struggle. 

Just in time for the holidays, Gypsy and Company held their soft opening on Nov. 27, featuring works in painting, glass, ceramic, furniture, interior design, and more. The gallery is now open officially Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gypsy and Company also offers scheduled private shopping if contacted at 708-968-7153.
