Have you ever wondered where the idea for the series “Voices of Autumn and Spring” began? The events organized by the Spanish area of the Department of Humanities of GSU highlight the bilingual character of our community and are held annually in both autumn and spring. 

“The idea and name of the event came out of a conversation with Dr. Novia Pagone,” said Professor Reynolds Andujar. “At the end of the fall 2018 semester, we wanted to take advantage of the GSU bookstore-sponsored Intellectual Life grant.” 

The first event was “Voices of Spring,” during the spring semester in 2019, when the Uruguayan poet Silvia Goldman was introduced. Then in the fall they invited the Dominican writer Kianny Antigua. 

            This year’s Voices of Spring event could not be held because of the pandemic, but this fall’s program featured Peruvian American writer and student Oswaldo Estrada.  

“Our focus is on writers who can identify with the experience of Hispanics, Latinos and LatinX and the goal is to allow writers to interact with our community,” says Professor Andujar. 

Students will be able to relate to stories, find common ground and be aware of the possibilities of knowledge of heritage and our present struggle.
