Tau Sigma: A National Honors Society for Transfer Students

Tau Sigma is a National Honor Society designed exclusively for transfer students. Tau Sigma provides its members opportunities to earn scholarships, take leadership positions in the chapter, provide a common bond and promote the involvement of transfer students in the university.

“Motivation for joining may be a simple as boasting about the honor on your resume and enjoying the regalia at Commencement, or you may serve in a leadership role and change the long-term landscape of future transfer students at GSU.  The experience that you receive in Tau Sigma is what you make of it, says Jessica Specht, Director, Dual Degree program and Advisor, Delta chapter, Tau Sigma National Honors Society.

Transfer students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for an invitation, have at least one full year of academic credits satisfied at the prior institution(s), be registered full-time in a course of study with the intention to complete a bachelor’s degree, complete a first term at GSU with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Current students will be eligible at the end of Fall term 2020, and will be notified of their invitation to join near the end of February 2021.

The society awards up to $100,000 in scholarships to active members every year. The annual award process involves a local competition among students within the chapter. Each chapter chooses representative who will be able to compete against students across the nation. There is a $250 gift card to the GSU Follett Bookstore, for the chapter winner/final nominee. Applications are due Oct. 29, 2020.
